Mr. Bittner went to work in the morning, as usual, and did not complain of not feeling well. He worked for perhaps two hours, when he was missed by his co- laborers, who went in search of him and shortly found him a short distance from where they were working lying face downward, apparently dead, which upon examination, was found to be the case. The coroner was notified, who ascribed death due to a heart attack. Before locating in Meyersdale, Mr. Bittner had been engaged in farming, and had lived here for about two years. He was a native of Somerset County and was 62 years of age on the 8th of last September. Besides his wife, Mrs. Margaret (Ackerman) Bittner, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. George Snyder, of Somerset; Mrs. William Stein, Jr., of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Robert Lindeman and Harry Bittner, both of Meyersdale. A sister, Mrs. Simon Keefer, resides in Larimer Township. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale, and the P.O.S. and A., of Berlin. Brief funeral services were held at the Bittner home at 2:30 p.m. and at 3:00 in Zion Lutheran Church, on Sunday, Oct. 20, the pastor, Rev. Howard K. Hilner, officiating. Interment was in Fritz Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of H. R. Konhaus, local mortician. Meyersdale Republican, October 24, 1940
