Death was due to the infirmities of age. Miss Black, who was the third daughter of the late Judge George Johnson and Sarah M. Bradfield Black of Meyersdale, was born in Addison Township March 17, 1857. At an early age she removed with her family to Somerfield and resided there until she was 17 when they removed to Meyersdale. During the years when her father was serving as county treasurer, and later as Associate Judge of Somerset County, the family resided in Somerset and in later life she made her home in California for a number of years. Miss Black taught in the public schools of Somerset and Meyersdale, and some of her pupils still residing in the county recall with pleasure happy days spent under her tutelage. Endowed with a kindly, gracious manner and a character in which generosity and hospitality were outstanding, Miss Black was affectionately known as "Aunt Ann" to a wide circle of friends, which literally extended from coast to coast. Devotion and loyality to her family were other outstanding characteristics of the deceased. Following the death of her parents Miss Black made her home with her brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William T. Hoblitzell in Meyersdale and after Mr. Hoblitzell's death she and her sister lived several years in Nashville, Tennessee, later returning to Meyersdale where Mrs. Hoblitzell died in 1936 at the home of her son, the late J. J. Hoblitzell. Miss Black was a charter member of the Meyersdale Methodist Church, the denomination to with which she remained affiliated until her death. In addition to Mrs. Hoblitzell, mentioned above, she was also preceded in death by two other sisters, Mrs. George Hopwood of Fresno, California, and Mrs. Robert Koontz of Berlin, and three brothers, James H. and Frank B. Black of Meyersdale, and John Milton Black of Somerset. She is survived by 11 nieces and seven nephews. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the Smith residence, 131 Arch Avenue, Greensburg, with Dr. L. D. Spaugy, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Greensburg officiating. Interment in the family plot in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, about noon. Meyersdale Republican, November 19, 1942
