Black, on August 7th, in Ontario, Canada. She suddenly became quite ill while at a bathing beach near her home and died within a few hours. Mrs. Black, whose maiden name was Edith Landerkin, came to Meyersdale about 35 years ago, as a professional nurse, from Listowell, Ontario, and was employed by the late James H. Black to nurse his invalid wife, who died after a long and lingering illness. After the death of his wife, Mr. Black, who was a well-known and prosperous local insurance agent, and was childless, prevailed upon Miss Landerkin to remain with him as his housekeeper. The arrangement proved mutually satisfactory and Miss Landerkin eventually became Mr. Black's second wife. They lived together very happily until his sudden death a few years after their marriage. The widow lived here alone for several years in the comfortable home left her by her husband, but longing for association with her kinfolks, she eventually disposed of her property here and returned to Canada, to make her home with her sister, Miss Addie Landerkin, and a niece, Miss Dorothy Wilson, in Toronto. Funeral arrangements were held in the Landerkin home in Toronto, August 9th. Meyersdale Republican, August 24, 1944
