Black Sr., 84, Garrett RD 1, died Feb. 24, 1979 in Meyersdale Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 1, 1894 in Meyersdale, a son of the late Frank B. and Flora Snyder Black. He is survived by his widow Elizabeth (Matthews) Black and these children. Frank S. Jr., married to the former Barbara Onderchek, of Bethesda, Md.; Ann, wife of John R. Place of Poolesville, Md.; Elizabeth, wife of R. Coy O'Connor of Era, Texas; Virginia, wife of Dale P. O'Connor, of Winchester Va.; and Miss Catherine Saville of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. and John B. and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Philson. He graduated from J. Lawrenceville Prep. School and Carnegie Mellon School of engineering, was a veteran of WWI, serving as a 2nd Lt. in France; was a life member and Past Commander of the Charles E. Kelly American Legion, a prominent farmer and leading force in establishing the Holestein Freeze Club in Somerset Co. During WWII he served in the capacity of engineer at Martin Air Craft Co. at Baltimore, Md. He was a member of St. Philip and James Catholic Church. Friends were received in the Leckemby Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Feb. 27, 1979 at St. Philip and James Catholic Church with Father Clark George officiating. Interment, in Union Cemetery. Military grave side rites by the joined Veterans organizations. The family requests expressions of sympathy to be in the form of donation to the Charles E. Kelly Post Building Fund.
