Black, 79, of Addison, formerly of Whitehall, died Aug. 28, 1996, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Nov. 26, 1916, in Apollo, a son of the late Harvey S. and Lena (Kepple) Black. Preceded in death by his wife of 4 years, D. Anne (Moore); a son, Roger C. Black, and a sister, Isabel Kerr. Surviving are a son, Thomas C. Black, Vienna, Va., and a daughter, Cynthia B. Molitor, Greensburg. Also 5 grandchildren and a brother, R. Wayne Black, Apollo. Served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. Retired from La-Z-Boy Chair Co. in 1979. Member and past president of Confluence Lions Club and former zone chairman of District 14M of Lions International. A senior committee person for the Somerset County Republican Party. Member of the International Order of Odd Fellows of Apollo and Baldwin United Presbyterian Church. A supporter of St. John's Lutheran Church of Addison. Active bowler in the Garrett County Senior Bowling League. He enjoyed his friends, hunting, fishing, bowling, boating and politics. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. till 9 p.m. Friday at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran church, Addison, with Rev. Dr. James K. Smith Sr. officiating. Interment, Addison Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Baldwin U.P.
