Black were shocked to hear of her sudden death in the Uniontown hospital, due to a heart ailment. Susan Williams was born July 22, in Elizabeth City, N.C., the daughter of Samuel and Susan Williams. While she was yet very young her mother died, and she was taken into the family of a beloved uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Batchelder of Norfolk, Va. Her "growing up" years were spent in Virginia where she attended a young ladies' school. On November 15, 1917, she was married to Robert E. Black of Confluence, who died June 26, 1944. A daughter, Mary Virginia Black, and a cousin, Mrs. D. Franklin Gill of Norfolk are her sole survivors. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, November 12, at her late home, Rev. R. A. Kelly of the Confluence Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Addison Cemetery by the side of her late husband. Meyersdale Republican, December 4, 1947
