Blough, 87, died at 3:30 Friday afternoon, May 29, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Torr, Johnstown, following an illness of several months. Mr. Blough was formerly one of the best known residents of Cambria City and was a survivor of the Johnstown flood of 1889. Mr. Blough was born in Meyersdale, a son of Jonas and Mary (Keim) Blough. His father was a Mennonite bishop in Somerset County. For almost fifty years, Mr. Blough operated a papering and painting shop in Cambria City. He left that section in 1936 after the flood waters had inundated his shop. Mr. Blough was one of the original members of the famous Black Hussar band in Johnstown which made its first public appearance in Johnstown the day before the flood of 1889. He also was a member of the original Reed band for 21 years and was well known as a clarinetist and violinist. Mrs. Blough died about 15 years ago. One sister, Mrs. Eli Benshoff, resides at New Milford, Ohio. He was the father of eight children, three of whom preceded him in death. Six brothers and sisters also preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 this Monday afternoon at the Bimmel Funeral Home in Johnstown, with interment following in the Grandview Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, June 4, 1942
