Born Feb. 26, 1921 in Lehighton, son of the late Harry Franklin and Mayme (Christman) Bock. Survived by his wife the former Evalyn June Shoup whom he married on May 2, 1947, and these children: June Kathryn married to David E. Irwin of Champaign, Ill.; Lawrence Richard married to the former Dianna Lynne Robertson of Huntingdon; and David Emmett married to the former Shelly Snyder of Hooversville; and two granddaughters: Anne Catherine Bock of Pittsburgh and Laura Elizabeth Bock of Huntingdon. Also survived by a sister Kathryn Bock Niehoff of Jim Thorpe, a brother Emmett of Cape May, N.J. and also Lacee. Dick graduated from Lehighton High School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after the outbreak of World War II and served in the Army's 1st Division (the Big Red One) in North Africa in the battle of the Kasserine Pass and then during the Italian campaign from the invasion of Anzio until the end of the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the battle of Civitivecchia, outside Rome. After the war, he enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University, where he nurtured the beginnings of a lifelong passion for Nittany Lion football. He graduated in 1948. After brief stints as a teacher and state government employee, he became an accountant with U.S. Steel in Johnstown in 1951, when he and his family moved to Hooversville. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1983 as general supervisor of accounting. He was a member and past president of the Hooversville Lions Club, a member and past president of the Forbes and later North Star school boards, and he served for many years on the Hooversville borough council, the Hooversville water authority, and the council of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hooversville, where he was also the financial secretary. Family will received friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, 976 Barn St., Hooversville. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville. No viewing at the church. Rev. Gerald L. Myers officiating. Interment P.O.S. of A. Cemetery, Hooversville.
