Boose Jr., 87, Arlington, Va., formerly of Somerset passed away April 13, 2001 at his home. He was the son of the late Howard R. and Lottie (Good) Boose who lived in Somerset. He was a 1931 graduate of Somerset High School as was his wife of 58 years, Peggy Specht Boose who died in 1992. Survivors include two sons, Howard III of Dayton, Ohio, and R. Andrew Boose of Sneden's Landing, N.Y.; a daughter, Peggy Boose Burke of Arlington, Va.; a sister-in-law Mrs. Robert I. Boose of Somerset, and brother-in-law Dr. George Gourley of Somerset, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Howard grew up in Somerset and remained in the area until he entered the Army just prior to World War II. He returned briefly after the war and founded Boose and Hawke Concrete Products. In 1946 he decided to return to the Army. He was a retired Army colonel and former civilian intelligence officer and an Arlington real estate agent. he had maintained a home in Arlington since the 1950s. Col. Boose attended both Gettysburg College in his native Pennsylvania, and Ohio State University. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before receiving and Army commission about 1940. During World War II, he served in this country with armored units. He later spent much of his uniformed career in intelligence. Fluent in Turkish, he also served for a time as an adviser to the Turkish army. His last assignment, before retiring from active duty in 1961, was in a Pentagon intelligence post. He served with Army intelligence in a civilian capacity from 1961 to 1976, then became an Arlington real estate agent. He worked for the Arlington realty firms of Better Homes and George Mason Green before founding his own firm, Neighborhood Realty, which he operated in the 1980s before retiring altogether. Col. Boose was a 40-year member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Arlington, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a past president of the Arlington Optimist Club.
