She had been in poor health for two years, her last serious illness developing early in this year and gradually becoming worse until the end. Every care was given to her by her devoted children. Mrs. Bower was a member of one of Somerset County's oldest families, prominent in the early school history of the County. A complete history of the family was lately compiled. She lived in Confluence all her married life, and was well known and well liked. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church, was president of the Willing Workers and was active in S.S. work. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen. She was a devoted wife and mother and a kind neighbor, and the mother of ten children; one daughter, Ethel, preceding her to the grave. Two of her children have chosen the profession of teaching, following a family tradition. Elizabeth Bower has taught very successfully in Dunbar Township, Fayette County, for a number of years, and James is finishing his 3rd term of teaching in Ursina, with a good record. The other children are Mrs. William Hosmer and Roy Bower, of Wilkinsburg; Clyde, Floyd, Walter, and Mrs. Russell Friend, all of Confluence; and Mrs. D. M. Ponesti of Boswell. Ten grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: William B. and Park Stutzman, of Somerset; Mrs. George Delancey, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Sadie Autey, Jenners, and Mrs. Emma Kellar, Garrett. The floral tributes were many and extremely beautiful, the family distributing them to the shut-ins and ill ones in Confluence. Funeral services were held at her late home Sunday afternoon. Rev. Shannon and Rev. Ritter conducted the services. Interment in the Baptist Cemetery, Charles Humbert was the funeral director. The pallbearers were Lawrence Kurtz, Kenneth Williams, P. G. Miller, William Groff, Elliott Beggs and Dr. Ray Show. Meyersdale Republican, April 25, 1940
