He was born April 2, 1876, the son of James and Catherine (Broadwater) Bowers, in Garrett County. He married Martha Elizabeth Broadwater, who survives with the following children: Manning Bowers, Washington, D.C.; Homer Bowers, Waldorf, Md.; Sterling Bowers, Hyatteville, Md.; Carl and Harry Bowers, at home; Mrs. Eveline Bowers, Altoona; Miss Mildred Bowers, Washington, D.C., and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Eliza Green of Grantsville, Mrs. Ida Green of Swanton, Mrs. Martha Hare of Jennings, William and Lawrence Bowers of Grantsville RD 2, and George Bowers, Jennings. Funeral services were conducted in the Jennings Methodist Church on Monday afternoon, the Rev. D. J. Combs officiating. Interment was made in the Grantsville Cemetery.
