Bowers, 67, Somerset, passed on Sept. 14, 2005, at home. Born April 12, 1938, in Big Run, he is the son of Guy H. Bowers of Listie and the late Twila (Bargerstock) Bowers. He is preceded in death by his mother and sister, Vivian Mucha. He is survived by his father (and wife, Helen). He is also survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice (Betta) Bowers; daughter Heidi (and husband, Brian) Sembower, Somerset; and son William II (and wife, the former Deanna Williams) Bowers, Somerset. He was known as "Pappy" to his beloved grandchildren Hannah, William III and Brock. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. He is the brother of Marge (and husband, Dave) Griffith, and David (and wife, Connie) Bowers, both of Somerset. He was a graduate of Shanksville High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of U.S. Steel and later worked for Somerset County, first as the Director of Emergency Management and later as the officer for the Bureau of Weights and Measures. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved to swim with his grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW Post 554, the FOE Aerie 1801 in Somerset, the Elk BPO Lodge in Meyersdale, and the New Baltimore Sportsmen's Club. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Church in Somerset, Monsignor Samuel Tomaselli Celebrant. A vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent on behalf of Mr. Bowers' nephew Terry Griffith to the Leukemia Society at 2 Gateway Center, Pittsburgh, PA 15230.
