Bowlby, 98, of Somerset, died Oct. 21, 1996, at Somerset Patriot Manor. Born Feb. 19, 1898, in Casselman, Upper Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, daughter of James Leroy and Ada Mae (Witt) Whipkey. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Roy Walter Bowlby, who died Dec. 4, 1951; daughter, Violet Goss, who died March 28, 1990; brothers: H. Forrest Whipkey and James M. Whipkey; sister, Nelle Detwiler. Survived by foster granddaughter, Mrs. Janice R. Aaron of Linwood, Md.; foster great-grandson, Scott Aaron; five nieces and two nephews. A 1939 graduate of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Co-owner with her husband of Bowlby's Restaurant, Main Street, Somerset, in the 1940s. Retired employee of Somerset Drug Company. She was an avid quilter. Member of Somerset Church of the Brethren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Roger L. Forry officiating.
