Born Feb. 11, 1913, in Brothersvalley Township, the son of Harmer McCllan and Carrie Idella (Hauger) Bowlby. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard A. Bowlby; sister, Fern Bowlby Dixon; and brother, Harmer M. Bowlby. Survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia Thompson (Duppstadt);children: Mrs.George (Guinevere) Walker, Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas Dwight Bowlby, married to the former Diana Horton, Redondo Beach, Calif., Mrs. Dennis (Gwendolyn) Ohler, Somerset, Mrs. Jack (Julia) Marker, Sipesville; daughter-in- law, Mary Alice (Walters) Bowlby, Somerset. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. A 1933 graduate of Somerset High School. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church. A Navy veteran of World War II. Employed by the former Shoemaker Brothers Clothing Store, WT Raleigh Co., co-owner of Nash Auto Agency and retired Unit Manager of United Insurance Co. of America. Member of F & AM Lodge 358, Jaffa Shrine, VFW Post 554 and Odd Fellows. For 18 years, Ray and his wife, Virginia spent their winters in Fort Meyers, Fla., where he attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed playing cards, shuffle board, swimming and socializing with friends. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Linda J. McElroy officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
