All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ CATHERINE BOWMAN Mrs. Charles Bowman died at her home at the edge of Deep Creek Lake, near McHenry, on Friday, Dec. 9th, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 2 days. Her death was due to paralysis, the third stroke proving fatal. Her maiden name was Catherine Gnagey. She was a daughter of Elias and Barbara Gnagey of Summit Township, Somerset County, Pa. She was married to Charles Bowman Aug. 16, 1896, and is survived by her husband and seven children, namely: Minnie (Mrs. Leonard Shaw), Orpha (Mrs. Bennie Witt), Grace (Mrs. Ralph Romesburg), Elva (Mrs. Russell Wilbur), Floyd (also married), and Melvin and Carl, at home. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Savilla Opel, and one brother, Jacob Gnagey who lives at Archbold, Ohio. The funeral was held at the family home last Sunday. She was a member of the Glade Mennonite Church and was buried in the Thayerville Cemetery, Elder G. D. Miller of Springs officiating, and members of the Glade Church provided music. Meyersdale Republican, December 15, 1932 ------ KATIE BOWMAN Death of Mrs. Charles Bowman Summit Mills, Dec. 14 - Last Thursday a telephone message to Bennie Witt's apprised them of the serious illness of Mrs. Witt's mother, Mrs. Charles Bowman, of McHenry, Maryland. Friday morning they hurried to McHenry, but arrived after she had been dead several hours. Mrs. Bowman was a former resident of Summit Mills and had many relatives and friends in this vicinity. Others besides Mr. and Mrs. Witt, who attended the funeral on Sunday were her sister, Mrs. Savilla Opel, and Mrs. Opel's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Maust; her nephews, Mahlon and Dennis Yoder; her niece, Mrs. Ellen Weller, and Maggie Witt.
