Howard Leroy Bowman, last surviving child of Calvin K. and Gertrude Deniker Bowman, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 1940, at 5:30 p.m., at the age of 39 years, 6 months and 4 days. His death was due to a complication of diseases, including heart trouble, and he suffered severely at intervals during the last few years, spending some time in a Philadelphia hospital, a month or more ago. What makes his death all the more sad is the fact that both his wife and his father have been ill lately, and his father has had to spend much time in various hospitals during the last few years. Both father and son have been operating coal mines most of the time for years, and have given employment to many men during their business career. They also owned and conducted the Pine Grove Camp amusement resort, near Salisbury and Boynton. Both were kind and considerate employers. Howard was born, reared, and died in Boynton. Among his good traits were kindness to others, and his ever willingness to do anyone a favor, if it was in his power to do so. He is survived by his parents, and also by his wife, who before their marriage was Miss Salina Watson, and by one daughter, Jane, and one son, Howard L., at home. He was a member of the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge No. 554, and also the New Castle Consistory of New Castle, Pa., and Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, Pa. The funeral was held at the family home in Boynton today (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. S. D. Sigler of Salisbury in charge of the service and the burial in charge of Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician, with burial in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, February 8, 1940
