He was born March 3, 1929, in Somerset. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter M. Bowman and Harriet (Dickey) Bowman and a daughter Laura. He is survived by his wife, daughter Anne and sisters Dorothy Moore, Ruby Pugh, and Pauline Lenhart, brothers Ronald Bowman and Dean Bowman. He graduated from Somerset High School. He was a veteran serving in the Army with the First NATO Troops. He graduated from Columbia University and General Seminary both in New York City. He was an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church. Richard served Episcopal parishes in New York State, Gibsonia, Madison, Wis., Rock Island Ill., Apopka, Fla, and Orlando, Fla. He served at the Church of the Holy Spirit for 10 years and St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Orlando for seven years. While at Holy Spirit, Richard began he Loaves and Fishes out-reach program. For five years, Richard was Spiritual Director in Residence at Canterbury Retreat and Conference Center in Oviedo, Fla. He served as a deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church for many years and served on the Liturgical Commission. He will be remembered for his exuberant personality, his wonderful smile and his deep faith. He was a counselor and friend to many. He was a faithful priest, a wonderful father and husband. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2499 N. Westmoreland Dr., Orlando, Fla. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Canterbury Retreat and Conference Center, 1601 Alafaya Trail, Oviedo, FL 32765.
