BOWMAN The remains of Pfc. Warren M. Bowman, first World War II dead to be returned to Meyersdale, arrived here November 14, escorted by Cpl. Lewis Magro of Philadelphia. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Konhaus Funeral Home. Rev. Loren Bowman, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, of which Warren was a member, conducting a short service. The deceased soldier was the son of Mrs. Annie E. (Bowman) Jones of Meyersdale R.D. 2, and the late William H. Bowman, and was born in Jerome, August 11, 1923. He enlisted in the U.S. Army December 10, 1942, and received his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and Camp Chaffee, Ark. He sailed for overseas duty October 22, 1944, on the U.S.S. William Black. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, December 26, 1944, while serving with Co. I, 33rd Armored Division. He was 21 years of age. His body was recently returned to the United States aboard the U.S.S. Joseph Connolly. In addition to his mother, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Melvin E., Elmer S., Clarence R., Harry C., Charles E., George O., William P., Bernice M., Caroline V., all of Meyersdale, and John W., of McKees Rocks. Interment was made in Union Cemetery under the direction of Mortician H. R. Konhaus, at which time a military service was conducted by members of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pall-bearers and honorary pall-bearers were members of both the Legion and the V.F.W. The colors of each organization were placed by the casket while it was on view in the Konhaus Funeral Home, and were taken to the cemetery in advance of the funeral procession. Cpl. Magro, who escorted the body to Meyersdale, made the presentation of the American flag at the grave to Mrs. Annie Jones, mother of Warren. Meyersdale Republican, November 20, 1947
