Bowman, of Monongahela, Pa., who left many surviving relatives in Salisbury and vicinity, died in the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, at 1:05 a.m., Sunday, June 1, 1941, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 11 days. He was a railway freight conductor, and ever since 1920 was in the employee of the Donora Southern Railroad Company, and lost his life through an accident in the railroad yard at the Donora Steel and Wire plant. He was jolted from the footboard of a locomotive tender which was in motion, the wheels of the tender severing both of his legs between the ankles and knees. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, where he died at the time stated, in spite of three blood transfusions. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of May 30th, and he was conscious until some time during the afternoon, next day. Mr. Bowman lived most of his life in Monongahela, and was engaged in railroad work only a few months less than 50 years. His nearest surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Adelaide Bowman, at home, and Mrs. R. B. Laughlin, of Pittsburgh; a son, Roy Bowman, of Monongahela; three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. G. W. Starr of Latrobe, and Mrs. Frank Miller of Salisbury. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. June 3rd, at the Bowman home, conducted by Rev. J. Allen Kestler, of the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela, of which Mr. Bowman was a member. Interment was in the Monongahela cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, June 19, 1941
