News of her sudden death came as a shock to the entire community where she was well known. Mrs. Bowser was born May 6, 1862, a daughter of Solomon and Rebecca Broadwater Bittinger, and was 78 years of age at the time of her demise. She had resided in the county all of her life, most of which was spent in or near the Bittinger section. On April 15, 1883, she married Perry Bowser, one of the most prosperous and well known farmers of the county. He died about fourteen years ago. Since her marriage Mrs. Bowser had resided on the farm where she died. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Bowser, with the able assistance of her son, Lloyd, and daughter, Mrs. Annabel Beahm, continued to successfully operate the farm, one of the largest in this section. At an early age she united with the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren and remained one of its most faithful and devout members until her death. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ida Secrist, Easton, Md., Mrs. Jesse Gibbs, New Philadelphia, O., Mrs. Cora DeShiell, Cumberland, and Mrs. J. C. Beahm, at home, two sons, Lloyd, at home and Edward Bowser near Grantsville, fifteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ida Meyers, Jennings. Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14, and interment was in the Bowser cemetery, under the direction of William Winterberg, local mortician. Rev. R. W. Smith, pastor of the Church of the Brethren at Burlington, W.Va., officiated. Serving as pallbearers were Charles O. Bender, Harry C. Edwards, Stewart Rodamer, Joseph F. Fahey, Arthur Resh and James Johnson. All of the children, with their families, were here to attend the rites. Meyersdale Republican, December 19, 1940
