Born July 25, 1924, in Berlin, son of David Ross and Emma E. (Fisher) Bowser. Preceded in death by parents, daughter, Cindy Lou in 1972; infant son, brother, Jack, and sister, Helen Cameron. Survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Peggy Ellen Poorbaugh, and these children: Karen, married to David White, Philadelphia; Sandra, married to Harold Weimer, Somerset; Carol, married to Fred Uphouse; Debra, married to Douglas Hillegass; Joni, married to David Weighley, and David Ross Bowser Jr., married to the former Mary Lynn Cotter, all of Berlin; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of: William, Chambersburg; Evelyn Schrock, Tucson, Ariz.; Mary Leecy, Cumberland, Md.; Kathryn Christner, Kay Sweitzer and Joan Bush, all of Berlin. Retired from Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown. Army veteran of World War II, having served as private first class in the 17th Airborne and the Korean War, serving as a master sergeant with Company C, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. He received the Expert Rifle Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He fought in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the Third Army under General Patton. Member of Berlin Brethren Church, Last Man's Club and DAV. Life member of Berlin American Legion and VFW. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Owen Preston and Rev. Ralph Landis officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Berlin Brethren Church. Graveside military rite by Berlin American Legion and VFW.
