BOWSER Death relieved the suffering of Emanuel M. Bowser, 80, at his home on Lincoln Avenue last Saturday morning, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Bowser was for many years one of Meyersdale's widely known and highly respected citizens. He was for many years an active member of the Main Street Brethren Church. He was born in Larimer Township, July 7, 1862, a son of Jacob and Caroline (Hersch) Bowser. His early life was devoted to farming, from which he retired many years ago. He was a handy man at many kinds of work and by industry and thrift and good business management was always a good provider for his family. He was a kind husband and father and good neighbor. He enjoyed the blessing of good health the greater part of his four score years. It was only during his last years that he was sorely afflicted with maladies that were the cause of much suffering and that baffled the skill of the physicians and surgeons that attended him. About one year ago he had one of his legs amputated, to stop the spread of infection. For a while afterwards he was able to get about on crutches, but finally had to take to his bed to rise no more. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Tracy (Hoffman) Bowser, and three children, Mahlon and Reuben Bowser and Mrs. Robert Lorenzen, all of Meyersdale; two grandchildren, Harry Bowser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Bowser, a student in Franklin and Marshall College, and Dolly Lou, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lorenzen, and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. A. W. Poorbaugh, Meyersdale; Mrs. Lizzie Brant, Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Catherine Zinn, Bedford, and John Bowser, Kingwood, West Virginia. Another sister, Mrs. Charles Streng, passed away recently, as did also a brother, William Bowser, several years ago. His body was viewed by many friends at the Konhaus Funeral Home, and as it lay in state in the Main Street Brethren Church from 10 till 2 on Tuesday. Funeral services, held in the Main Street Brethren Church, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Kenneth Ashman, were largely attended. His body was laid to rest in Union Cemetery. The burial arrangements were in charge of Mortician H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, February 11, 1943
