Boyer, 79, of Somerset, formerly of Kantner, died March 28, 2001 at Altoona Hospital. Born Aug. 11, 1921 in St. Clairsville, Bedford County. Son of William E. and Alberta S. (Fetter) Boyer. Preceded in death by parents, wife Edna (Sechler), great-granddaughter Jessica Charlton, brothers, George, Melvin, Richard, William, Eugene and John, and sisters, Florence and Jessie. Survived by children: Lynn married to the former Chrystol Kennell of Chambersburg; Linda married to Samuel F. Donia of Stoystown, and Lois married to Alan Miller of RD Hooversville. Also nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Betty Boyer and Mary Jo Yingling, both of Somerset. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Member of Kantner United Methodist Church, Stoystown American Legion, Quemahoning, North Branch and Mercersburg rod and gun clubs. Also member of Somerset Fraternal Order of Eagles and a 1998 inductee in the Somerset County Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a coal miner and a maintenance person at the former Briggs Corp. of Somerset. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kantner United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas H. Zimmerman officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown.
