Born Sept. 29, 1919, in Somerset. Son of the late Charles and Mabel (Hoover) Brant. Survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Louise Houpt. He spent his entire life in Somerset. Also survived by daughters: Sandra Jean Weimer and husband Lynn of Midland, Mich., and Linda Kay Dufseth and husband John of Hickory, N.C. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Scott Weimer of Houston, Texas, and his son Nathaniel J. Harkleroad of San Diego, Calif., and Brook Allen O'Roark and his wife Gwen (Girton) of Johnstown and their daughters: Allison Emilie, Jamie Lynn O'Roark Hoyle and her husband Andy of Hickory, N.C. and their daughter Mallory Grace, and Amy Sue Weimer of Dearborn, Mich. Also survived by his two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Franklin (Fern) Brant of Somerset, Mrs. Ira (Ethel) Brant of Brimfield, Mass.; stepbrother James Cappo and his wife Rosie of Somerset, and two stepsisters: Jean Leizack of New Kensington and Mary Ann Vestrand of Florida. Predeceased by his brothers, Franklin, Eugene, Ira, James and Richard. Survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Charlie was a well-known amateur and professional boxer in the area, having held the Golden Gloves championship and Diamond Belt championships in the late 1930s. He was honored most recently by the "Has Beens" as a supporter for their club in Cumberland, Md., which mentored, trained and sponsored young boxers. Charlie owned and operated C. Brant Mining Co. for 30 years and retired in 1982. Served in the armed forces during World War II in the European Theatre, serving in the 78th Lightning Division 303 Combat Engineers Battalion. Participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Member of the First United Methodist Church, Somerset. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday in Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, where funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Dr. Arthur Gotjen and Rev. Joseph Beer officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery.
