Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Acme, the daughter of the late James and Lottie Mowry. She preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, the Rev. Herbert N. Brant, an active minister of the Lutheran Church who passed away March 31, 2004. She is survived by three children: Herbert Mowry Brant, Robert James Brant, and Helen Joyce Barrett; six grandchildren: Chimene Brant Smith, Todd Brant, Gregory Brant, Gretchen LaBatch, Heather Thompson, and James Barrett, and 10 great grandchildren: Sydney Smith, Abigail Brant, Nathan Brant, Trevor Brant, Thomas Brant, Joseph LaBatch, Heidi LaBatch, Keith Thompson, Diana Thompson, and Christopher Barrett. After graduation from Mount Pleasant High School and California University of Pennsylvania, she first taught at Bullskin Township and then at the public school system of Baden and Derry for 34 years. Mrs. Brant loved teaching and often reflected on her experiences and the accomplishments of her numerous students. As the wife of a minister, Mrs. Brant served the church, her community, and supported her husband's ministry for 70 years. She knew from an early age that she wanted to educate, work with others, support the work of God, and help her fellow man and family. To accomplish this, she organized vacation bible school in a number of congregations, was especially proud of the annual Harvest Home displays, women of the church societies, and served as a counselor and teacher at the Lutheran Church Camp. For seven years, Mrs. Brant served as vice president and president of the Thiel College Women's Club. She was also president of the Passavant Home Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crafts, working in the garden, and raising beautiful flowers. Mrs. Brant was anxious to share special coveted creations with family, friends, and strangers. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home Inc. 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 331 Weldon St., Latrobe. The church pastors will officiate. Everyone please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Donegal Cemetery, Donegal. Of note, the special care and companionship given to Mrs. Brant by Crystal Rose is much appreciated by the family.
