L. Brant, died in the Allegany Hospital at 7:25 o'clock last Thursday morning from tetanus, induced by cutting a finger on a horse mower on July 14, six weeks preceding his death. At the time the injury was received Dr. Pollard dressed and disinfected the wound which healed up very nicely and it was forgotten when his jaws began to stiffen and partly close. Mr. Brant consulted specialists at Johnstown and Cumberland. During the last stages of the disease he suffered spasmodic contractions of the larynx. On the Sunday preceding his death he was taken to the hospital and no relief could be given him. Mr. Brant was born in Brothersvalley Township on October 13, 1869 which would make him nearly 47 years of age when he ceased from his valuable duties in life. In early manhood he taught school and later engaged in the lumber interests and later entered the employ of the B. & O. Railroad Company, and for the past twenty two years he has resided in Garrett. His wife who was Miss Ida Hoover survives as do six daughters and two sons, namely Nelle [Nellie?] B., Verda M., Rene I., Helen K., James Edgar, Geo. S., Charlotte A., and Louise and one brother, J. E. of Friedens. Mr. Brant was of great worth to his community, he served as school director; he assisted in the founding of the Reformed Church in Garrett and was active in all of its interests, he was an elder in the church at the time of his death. He believed in education, having graduated two of his daughters from Hood College. He was interested at all times in the welfare of the community and prior to his death he was giving much attention to the beautifying of the new cemetery, where his own form was among the first to be laid away to rest. He will be greatly missed in the community. The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. H. Wiant, his pastor assisted by Rev. A. S. Kresge. Meyersdale Commercial, Sept. 7, 1916
