Scott Brashear, 88, of Somerset died April 12, 1978 in the Washington Hospital, Extended Care Facility, Washington, Pa. Born Dec. 3, 1889 in Sharpsburg, Md., a son of Joshua and Edmonia (Boyer) Brashear. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Acie Slagle, and two sisters. Survived by these children: Robert S. of Washington, Pa.; Dr. David S. of Norristown, Pa.; and William S. Vare of Bellefont [sic], Pa.; and Mrs. Alfred (Clara Isabelle) Phasey of Erie; and Ruth E. Vare of Machen, Georgia; also 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Rebie Manges of Somerset and Mrs. Fannie Austin of Ft. Meyers, Fla. Member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served in every elected office of the church; teacher of the Beacon Bible Class for 50 years; a member of the Grange; member of the Grange; member of the Laurel Highlands AARP Choir; associated with various musical events throughout his life; retired grocer from the H.C. Beeritts Co. Friends received at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Wesley Spahn officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Daily American, April 13, 1978 [B2574]
