Born March 18, 1920 in Somerset, a daughter of the late Ivan and Twila Zeigler Gardner [SIC]. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick N. Brass on June 25, 1998, and their only child, Richard F. Brass in 1992, and three brothers, Willard, Willford and Dr. Ivan O. Gardner. Surviving are three grandchildren, Laurel E. Brass, Margaret E. Brass and David G. Brass, and a daughter-in-law Nancy Brass. Since the age of 12, Betty devoted much of her life to church work, in various duties. A member of Conway Presbyterian Church and the former Christian Church of Somerset. She was a member of the Children Aid and Family Service, Ambridge Branch, past president of the Harmony Township Fire Auxiliary, at the time the new fire hall was being built. Betty was a former member of the Harmony Township Civic Club, a member of the Beaver County Historical Society as well as the Washington County Historical Society as a life member. She was honored with her 50-year certificate for membership in 1999 of the NSDAR. A member of the Col. Henry Bouguet which disbanded, Betty currently is a Fort McIntosh DAR chapter member. She has held Regent of her chapter for two terms. Statewide, she was N.W. Director for three years, state Registrar, and has held various state chairmanships. She has held three, three-years terms as national vice chairmanships, and was appointed by the National Presidents General to the DAR Speakers Staff. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday in the Matter Tatalovich Funeral Home, 1133 Church St., Ambridge, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment to follow in Slyvania Hills Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Conway Presbyterian Church or the Harmony Township Volunteer Fire Department.
