BROADWATER Luke Hitchcock Broadwater of Wilmington, Del., died Sunday, March 20, in the Church Home and Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Eastburn Funeral Home, Avondale, Pa., and interment was made in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Berlin, Pa., on Friday, March 25. Mr. Broadwater was born in Somerset County near Glencoe, August 6, 1870. He was the son of Ephraim and Lydia (Tressler) Broadwater and was the youngest of 13 children, all of whom are deceased. The brothers and sisters were: Charles, Thomas, John, William, George, Mrs. Sara Hartman, Mrs. Jane Cole, Mrs. Malinda Faidley, Mrs. Alice Cole, Mrs. Ella Kimmel, Mrs. Emma Troutman and Julia Broadwater. Mr. Broadwater was a retired president of the American Glycerin Company, a DuPont subsidiary. He was connected with the DuPont Company in various capacities for 37 years. After his retirement in 1929 he remained active in a number of personal enterprises including scientific farming on his large estate in Avondale. He received his education in the public schools of Somerset County, normal schools of Berlin and New Centerville, Pa., and the Normal Institute at Marshalltown, Ia. After teaching for a time in his native state and in Iowa, he studied law in Findlay, O. He was then employed by the Bradford Glycerin Co., but later formed his own organization.
