BROADWATER Dr. Melvin Frost Broadwater, 60-year-old dentist, died Friday, Feb. 11, of pneumonia in Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md. He was a native of Grantsville, a son of the late James S. and Marion (Frost) Broadwater. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hildegarde Broadwater of Frederick and two sisters, Misses Ethel and Viola Broadwater of Grantsville. Meyersdale Republican, February 17, 1949 MELVIN FROST BROADWATER Funeral services for Dr. Melvin Frost Broadwater, 60, well known dentist, native of Grantsville, who died Feb. 11, in Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md., were held last Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., at the M. R. Etchison and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. J. Franklin Hass, pastor of Calvary Methodist Church officiated. Interment was made in Arlington Cemetery at one o'clock with military honors. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. William McGinnis, chaplain of Fort Meyer, Va., assisted by members of the cemetery staff. Dr. Broadwater, son of the late James Sanford and Marlan (Frost) Broadwater, was born in Grantsville, Md., Sept. 5, 1888. He was a great-grandson of Meshach Frost, founder of Frostburg, and grandson of William C. Broadwater of Grantsville, also a Western Maryland pioneer. He attended St. Johns College, Annapolis, University of Pittsburgh Dental School and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School, Baltimore. Dr. Broadwater practiced dentistry in Pittsburgh before enlisting in the U.S. Army Dental Corps in 1918. He served as a Captain until 1921. Upon discharge from the Army he became associated with the Veterans Administration. He served as dental surgeon in the U.S. Dental Corps, Cape May, N.J., Public Health Hospital, Perry Point; Edward Hines Jr., Hospital, Chicago; Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C.; New Haven Conn. Veterans' Hospital; Bay Pines Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Polyclinic Hospital, New York City. He practiced dentistry in Frederick since 1938. Dr. Broadwater was a member of Calvary Methodist Church, Frederick; Lodge No. 684, B.P.O. Elks; Francis Scott Key Post, American Legion; Forty and Eight; Catoctin Club, Inc., Catotin Country Club; Psi Omega dental fraternity, and served as president of the Frederick County Dental Society. His wife, the former Hildegarde Merkel of Los Angeles, Calif., whom he married in Chicago in 1923, survives; also a son, Robert Broadwater, Hyattsville, three grandchildren and two sisters, Misses Ethel and Marian Viola Broadwater, Grantsville. Among those attending the funeral services were Misses Ethel and Viola Broadwater, Mrs. T. O. Broadwater, Mrs. H. F. Broadwater, Grantsville; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Broadwater, Hyattsville; Dr. and Mrs. G. V. Broadwater and son, Nick, and Mrs. Isabel Hull, Hagerstown; Mrs. Nelle Zeller and Mrs. James Lemmenrt of Frostburg; Dr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson, Baltimore; William Bender, Mr. and Mrs. H.
