Robert Broadwater, 26, husband of Mrs. Hazel Hunt Broadwater, Cumberland, who was killed March 1, 1945, was held in New Germany Methodist Church. The Rev. D. J. Combs, pastor, officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Members of Grantsville Post No. 214, American Legion, and of Fort Cumberland Post No. 13, American Legion, were pallbearers and color guard. Born in Garrett County, Pfc. Broadwater was employed at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company plant here before he entered the Army June 20, 1944. He received training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and went overseas in December, 1944. He served with Company D, 41st Armored Infantry Regiment. Surviving besides his widow and a daughter, Sandra Broadwater, are his parents, Raymond and Laura Stephens Broadwater, Avilton; four brothers - Homer and Allen Broadwater, both of Cumberland RD 1; Gm 1-c Wayne Broadwater, serving with U.S. Navy, and Don Broadwater, of the Marine Corps; and six sisters - Mrs. Bessie Halle, Winchester Road; Mrs. Helen Robeson, Frostburg; Mrs. Rella Albright, Cumberland; Mrs. Melva Crawford, Baltimore, and Norma and Eva Broadwater, Avilton.
