He was helping in the placing of mine cars when the car in which he was riding was shoved under a low hanging rock of the mine roof in a low seam of coal. His body was caught between the rock and the car. His back was broken in three places, one shoulder was badly crushed and mangled, and his neck was also broken. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Brown of Salisbury; also by these brothers and sisters: Hubert Brown and Mrs. Harry Wagner of Salisbury; Frank Brown and Miss Brown, Mrs. Peter Johnson, and Mrs. Henry Weimer of Acosta; Ralph Brown of Springs; Arthur Brown of Meyersdale; Mrs. Norman McKenzie of Frostburg, Md. Surviving also is a half-brother, Harvey Brown, Jr., of Salisbury, and by the following step-brothers and step-sisters: Chris, Henry, Charles and Harry Weimer, Mrs. Simon Short, Mrs. Charles Gaswhite, and Mrs. Norman Gramow, all of Acosta. Clarence Brown was known in the Salisbury community as a kind hearted person, by those who knew him well, including his step-mother, who helped to rear him, and says he never uttered an unkind word to her, and always treated her with kindly consideration. During the last eight years he boarded and roomed at the home of Mrs. John Weimer at Acosta. His body was prepared for burial by a Somerset mortician, and brought to Salisbury for burial. Funeral services were held at the Salisbury Lutheran Church, last Friday afternoon, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. D. Sigler. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Among the out-of-town relatives and friends at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ringler of Addison Township; Mr. and Mrs. Orville McKenzie of Avilton, Md.; Pink Lowery of Shaw Mines; Sgt. John H. Brown of Indiana; Kenneth Brown and family of Jerome; Irvin Brown and family of Jenners; his finance, Kathryn Nemick, and his best pal, Joseph Nemick, of Niagara Falls, New York.
