She was born Aug. 18, 1874, at Lonaconing, Md., oldest daughter of the late John H. and Savilla Diehl George. At the age of ten years she came with her parents to Keyser Ridge. She became a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Cove at the age of 13. To this congregation she was a faithful member to her last hour. To them were born five children, Mahlon and Harry, Edna, (Mrs. Bert Griffith), all of Cove, and Mary, (Mrs. Harold Jenkins) of Accident. A son Carl, died 35 years ago at the age of five days. Mrs. Brown's husband passed away Nov. 5, 1903, leaving her with four small children, Mary being only six months of age. She spent the rest of her life on behalf of her children bringing them up to be Christian men and women. For the past sixteen years her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Griffith, have been with her and enjoyed their work together. Mrs. Brown was in failing health for a number of years but was always up and about. On May 7 she prepared her meal as always for the family and told her grandson when he came from the field at 12:30 that she felt a little tired and was going to rest a little. At 2:30 she became quite ill and fell asleep at 3 o'clock. At 7 o'clock she peacefully passed to her eternal rest. Besides her children, nine grandchildren survive; also four brothers, Melchon and Henry George of Keyser Ridge, Martin of Akron, Ohio, and Mahlon E. George, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Bach, Mrs. Tillie Hanft of Cove, and Mrs. Margarette Glover of Akron, Ohio.
