He was found dead in his rocking chair, by his son, Clinton Brown who, on his way to work, stopped in to see his father, only to find that he had succumbed to a paralytic stroke. About six years ago he suffered a stroke which left his right arm paralyzed and since had several light strokes. He had been around as usual on Monday, but complained of not feeling well. His wife had gone to spend the night with her daughter, Mrs. Berle Huffman. Mr. Brown was an all-around man, efficient at nearly all kinds of work. He teamed and was employed as a hostler for a number of years. He also was on the road selling medicines and extracts. After he had no further use of his right arm, he did but little work other than chores about the house. "Pappy" Brown, as he was called by nearly all who knew him, was an upright citizen and a kind and devoted husband and father. He was kind to all children and much liked by them. He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Edward Waugaman, of Johnstown; Harry Brown, of Buffalo Mills; Mrs. Berle Huffman, Buffalo Mills; George Brown, of Mann's Choice, and Mary Brown, who is employed in Johnstown. Two sons and two daughters preceded him to the grave some years ago. He also leaves six grandchildren, one great- grandchild. His age at the time of his death was 71 years, 7 months and 7 days. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. William Garlinger. His remains were laid to rest in Blue Ridge Cemetery at Buffalo Mills, Thursday afternoon.
