Brown, 63, 209 Leaf Lane, Hollidaysburg, died after an extended illness Feb. 22, 2002 at his residence. Born Oct. 6, 1938 in Meyersdale, son of the late James A. and Elsie (Fresh) Brown. He married Carol A. Spangler Dec. 26, 1960 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Somerset. Survived by his wife; daughter, Christine R. Brown of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister, Gloria Rouch of Rayland, Ohio; and three brothers, Robert of Flat Rock, Mich.; Ronald of Somerset and Jerry of Bridgeville. Member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville, where he formerly served as treasurer for 11 years and was a former member of the choir. He also served on council. Retired from IU08 as director of instructional material services in 1993 with 19 years of service. A 1956 graduate of Rockwood Area High School, where he was president of his class and valedictorian. A 1960 graduate of Penn State with a degree in music. Received his Master of Education degree from the University of Indiana at Bloomington, Ind. Formerly served as president of Hollidaysburg Free Public Library, was assistant director of the Hollidaysburg Alumni Band and was the first recipient of the Pennlink Hall of Fame Award. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville, with Rev. Warren S. Karshin. Interment with graveside services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Cemetery, Somerset. Daily American, February 26, 2002 [B2911]
