All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ _______________________________________________ JANE BROWN Jane Wilhelmina Graves Brown died at Centre County Community Hospital, State College, Penna., Saturday, April 20 at 10:35 a.m. For the past three months she had been a resident at Toftrees Renaissance, State College. Born in Meyersdale on January 15, 1896 she was the daughter of Christine Holzshu Graves and William Alonzo Graves, she was one of Meyersdales' longest residing citizens. On September 14, 1918 she was married in Baltimore, Maryland to Thomas Boone Brown, a prominent coal operator who died October 3, 1943. Mrs. Brown attended Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland in 1916-1917. Upon the death of her husband in 1943, she assumed the operatorship of Quality Coal Company and Quality Smokeless Coal Company of Goodtown and Pine Hill respectively. This position she held for seven years. For many years an active member and financial secretary of Amity United Church of Christ of Meyersdale; she had also been a member of the Ladies' Bible Class and Guild. Interested in the Meyersdale Garden Club, Mrs. Brown served as Vice President and Program Chairman of that club for more than a decade. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Elizabeth Brown Forster of State College, Penna.; and a son, Thomas Boone Brown, Jr., also of state College. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Garrett Brown and a daughter, Joan Christine Brown Walsh. A memorial service will be held at the Faith United Church of Christ, College Avenue and Locust Lane, State College on Sunday April 28th at 2:30 p.m. An interment service will be held at the Union Cemetery, Meyersdale in early summer at the convenience of the people and interested people in Meyersdale and environs. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale, Penna., 15552 or Meyersdale Public Library. The Republic, April 25, 1985 [B2916]
