Brown, 65, of Red Lion RD 2, former pastor of Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 19, 1974. He served as pastor of Amity from 1940 to 1958 and was pastor of Heidelberg United Church of Christ in York for 22 years after leaving here. The past four years he was pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Red Lion, from which he retired two weeks ago. A native of Littlestown, Md., he was a son of the late Oscar D. and Jennie (Cover) Brown. He graduated from Littlestown High School; Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., in 1930, and Central Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, in 1933. The same year he accepted a call to the pastorate of Glade Charge, Walkersville, Md., where he remained until Dec. 31, 1939, coming to Meyersdale the following day. He was licensed for the ministry by Maryland Classis and was ordained by Maryland Classis, May 24, 1933. He was a member of the Clerical Club, former president and board member of the Hoffman Home for Children, past president of York County Ministerial Association and the Executive Club of York, past board member of Catawba College and served on the health and welfare and benevolent institutions committees of the United Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, the former Elaine Lau; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Ann Dizmaug, Annapolis, Md.; and three brothers, Tobias, Taneytown, Md.; Wade and Preston Brown, both of Littlestown. The Rev. Henry Korinth, pastor of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, officiated at funeral service Tuesday afternoon, in the church. Interment was in St. Peter's (Lischey's) Cemetery, near Spring Grove, under the direction of Baumeister and Orcutt Colonial Mortuary, York. Meyersdale Republican, January 24, 1974 [B2943]
