He closed his eyes to earthly things and opened them to the glory and splendor of heavenly life. Born January 10, 1936, in Sand Patch, he was a son of the late Franklin R. and Edna M. (Mishler) Brown. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Charles; and sisters: Ida Mae Snyder and Betty Jane Gaughan. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shelby (Pletcher) Brown, and these children: Douglas, husband of Christine Brown; Allison Hill, all of Meyersdale; Nancy Brown of Somerset; Janet Ickes of Harrisburg; and Caroline, wife of Joseph Penick of Frostburg, Md. He is also survived by these grandchildren: Robbie Brown, Chuck, Amanda, and Darren Ickes, Gabriel and Stephanie Penick, Robert and Christopher Brown, and Kara and Gregory Herring; also survived by sisters: Ruth, wife of Fred Romesburg of Meyersdale; and Nettie Brown of Somerset; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robert was retired from Sperry Well Drilling and loved gardening, animals, and blowing his Ram's horn. He spent many hours at his church, Glade City Church of God. He loved the Lord and his church. This was his greatest passion in life. Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home and from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, time of service at the Glade City Church of God with Rev. Bill Durstine officiating. Interment was in the White Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glade City Church of God or the Brown family.
