Boone Brown quietly passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 3, at his home at Front and Beachly Streets after an illness of several months. He was a well- known and highly respected business man of this community. He was born 66 years ago, the son of William Brown, at Shamokin, Pa. In early manhood he lived in West Virginia, but came to Meyersdale in 1915 and took over the Quality Coal mine at Pine Hill, which he operated until it was worked out. He later took over the Consolidation Coal Mine at Goodtown, and still later the Kimberly Mine, near the old Quality, which he was operating at the time of his death. He was also connected as a partner in the Meyersdale Chevrolet Co., for a number of years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In 1918 he married Jane Graves, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Graves, of Meyersdale. To them were born four children: Jack Garrett Brown, a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Jean, a graduate of Hood College, who during the past year, until just recently, held a position in Washington; Joan, who is attending a school of design in New York City, and Tom, who was graduated from high school last May and is at home, not having yet reached the draft age. Mr. Brown was a devoted family man and was justly proud of his fine children. Besides his wife and the above named children, he is survived by two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Brown and Mrs. Albert Weethee, of Charleston, W.Va., and an aunt, Mrs. Louise Brooks, Washington, D.C. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Nelson C. Brown of Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, directed by H. R. Konhaus. The pallbearers were Charles A. Merrill, Berlin; Ed F. Snyder, Garrett; W. H. Holzshu, John I. Meyers, William D. Baker and Charles Cook, all fellow members of the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge. Others, besides the above mentioned relatives who were here for the obsequies, were Miss Emma Graves of Chicago, sister of Mrs. Brown, and Lt. Kent Forster, of Washington, D.C., fiance of Miss Jean Brown. Meyersdale Republican, October 7, 1943
