Buchanan, 95, of Rowser Foster Home, Manns Choice, formerly of Buffalo Mills RD 1, died July 22, 1997, at Rowser Foster Home. Born July 3, 1902, in Juniata Township, the son of the late James and Nettie (Clites) Buchanan. His wife, Mildred Lea (Powell) died Oct. 6, 1977. Survived by 3 nieces: Lorene, wife of Lee Hoppert, Fairhope RD 1; Irene, wife of Fred Banner, Chambersburg; Pauline, wife of Charles Medlar, Johnstown; 2 nephews: James W. Sheirer, Greenville, and Powell Slick, Erie. In addition to wife, also preceded in death by daughter Carroll Jean in 1978 and sister Nellie in 1970. Former Bedford County commissioner. Nationwide Insurance Co. agent for 33 years. Farmer and Justice of the Peace for 18 years and an elementary school teacher for 36 years. A member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church. One of the organizers of Bedford Farm Bureau Co-op, where he served on the board of directors and was past secretary. Active in the Democratic Party in Bedford County. Was an avid Country Western and Blue Grass fan. Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home in Schellsburg, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Revs. Charles Rhodes and Ken Korns officiating.
