BUCKEL Former Garrett County, Md., Del. Elbert E. Buckel, 61, of Bittinger, died Feb. 4 at Veterans Hospital, Washington, after a lingering illness. Mr. Buckel was a farmer and operator of a peat moss business. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1958 to 1962. A veteran of World War II, he was a past commander of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bittinger; Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department and American Association of Retired Persons. Mr. Buckel was a member of Camp 68, Woodmen of the World, Bittinger, and was an escort of the jurisdictional office of the State of Maryland, Woodmen of the World. He was born at Bittinger, a son of the late Oliver and Ruth (Shoup) Buckel. He is survived by four brothers, Herbert, Ralph and Joseph Buckel, all of Bittinger, and Kenneth Buckel, Grantsville. Services were conducted at Maranatha Assembly of God Church Feb. 8 by Rev. William Ferguson. Interment was in Bittinger cemetery in charge of the Newman Funeral Home.
