Funeral services were held in the Bittinger Lutheran Church, Sunday afternoon. Rev. Curt Runze, the pastor, and Rev. C. A. Shilke, of Lavansville, Pa., former pastor of the Oakland Lutheran Church, officiated. Music was rendered by the church choir. The pall-bearers were nephews of the deceased, Blake and Blair Buckel, Robert Brenneman, Richard, Max and David Buckel. Interment in the church cemetery. Oliver Buckel was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Bittinger) Buckel. He was born at Bittinger. He married Miss Ruth Shoup, a former Bittinger minister's daughter, who survives, with the following sons: Herbert, Rex, Joseph, Elbert and Ralph, all of Bittinger, and Kenneth of Keyser's Ridge. Three brothers, Edward and Lawrence Buckel of Bittinger and Charles Buckel of Cumberland, and sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Brenneman of Bittinger, and Mrs. William Durr of Cresaptown, Md., also survive. Mr. Buckel conducted a general store, did some farming, and also served as Star Route mail carrier from Bittinger to Grantsville. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church and the Woodman of the World Camp of Bittinger. He was also clerk and financial secretary of the W.O.W. Camp for a number of years. He was well known and had many friends in the community. He was in ill health for several months, and was a patient in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, recently.
