Bungard, 92 of Mabel Street, Johnstown died May 24th at the Siemon Nursing Home, Somerset. He was born June 12, 1882 in Indianhead, Fayette County, the son of the late Austin P. and Barbara Berg Bungard. Also preceded in death by wife, the former Christine H. Muir and the following brothers and sisters - Joseph, William, Bessie, John, Ida, Margaret, Kathryn, James and Zeek. He is survived by four children: William S., married to former Catherine Parcher, Attleboro, Mass.; Margaret, widow of Claude T. Sturtz, Carriage Hills, Johnstown; Benjamin, Latrobe; Barbara, widow of the Rev. Allen W. Reed, Nebster, New York; a brother Homer C., Akron, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Reverend Bungard was a retired United Methodist minister and had served during his active ministry churches in Monessen, Herminie, Trafford, Portage, Altoona, Johnstown Park Avenue, Somerset and Mt. Pleasant where he retired. After retirement at age 72 he served as supply pastor at the Lutheran Church, Listie, the United Church of Christ, Berlin, and St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Stoystown. He was ordained by Bishop William Weekly in 1915 and received his Doctor of Divinity Degree from Otterbien College, Westerville, Ohio in 1927. He was a member of the following Masonic Bodies: Monessen Lodge No. 638 F&AM, Pittsburgh Consistory, Jaffa Temple, Altoona and the Johnstown Shrine Club. Dr. Bungard had served for a number of years as chaplain of Jaffa Shrine. He was also a member and the president of the T.E. Hearn Hunting Club in Huntingdon County which he founded in 1919. Reverend Bungard served two terms in the House of Representatives as representative from Westmoreland County from 1914 to 1918. He had served as chaplain both in the House and the Senate.
