Burgess, aged 91 years, 2 months and 10 days, died at the home of her son, Charles H. Burgess, in Uniontown, on Wednesday, December 2nd, at 9:30 a.m., after an illness of about a year. She was born in Addison on September 22, 1840, in the house that Thomas Augustine now lives in. She was a daughter of the late Isaac and Ann Roddy Light. In 1849 her father went to California and remained for two years, and on his return moved with his family to Iowa, except his daughter, Margaret, who remained with her grandparents, the late James and Eleanor Roddy, staying with them until August 26, 1866, when she married A. J. Burgess. To this union was born three children, Anna Roddy Burgess and Mary L. Burgess, both of whom preceded their mother to the grave, and Charles H. Burgess, who survives, and with whom she spent her last few years at his home in Uniontown. Her husband died about 40 years ago. Mrs. Burgess was a faithful member of the Confluence Lutheran Church since 1871, a period of sixty years. She was a devoted mother and a personal friend of practically every resident of Confluence, having a smile and a cheery word for every one, at all times. Funeral services were held at the home of her son in Uniontown at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4th, Rev. Geo. O. Ritter of the Confluence Lutheran Church officiating. Her body was laid to rest in Addison Cemetery, where short services were conducted by Rev. Ritter, assisted by Rev. Daniel E. Hartman of the Confluence Baptist Church. The pall-bearers were R. E. Black, C. E. Black, L. L. Mountain, G. A. Frantz, C. L. Groff and Ralph W. VanSickle. Meyersdale Republican, December 10, 1931
