Burket, 72, Laurel View Village, Davidsville, formally of Boswell, died June 11, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center, Main Campus. Born May 8, 1934 in Boswell, a daughter of George R. Sr., and Grace (Walker) Burket. Preceded in death by parents, brother, George Robert "Bobby" Burket Jr.; aunts, Mayme and Helen Burket; uncles, Jim, Paul, and Roy Burket; and very close friends, Rosie and Bill Haney. Survived by sister- in-law, Virginia "Ginny" Burket; nieces, Kelly Elizabeth Jackson and Patricia Rose Charest, great-niece Leah Rose Charest and great-nephew Jordan Maxwell Charest, all of Kansas; cousin, Lois Jane Burket, Johnstown; and loving friends and neighbors, Judy, Bill, Billy and Matthew Ash; Nicholas Ash and wife, Marlania; and Sheri (Ash) and husband, Kerry Conn. She was a 1952 graduate of the former JBJ Joint High School and also graduated from Cambria-Rowe Business College. Retired secretary for the former Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. with 30 years of service (1953-1983). A member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Boswell Area Historical Society. Was a resident of Laurel View since Jan. 2005. Formerly had been active in 4-H and the Girl Scouts. Was an expert at knitting and crocheting, and entered many of her projects in the Somerset County Fair, winning many awards. Became an avid horse woman in the early 1960's, showing her horses in 4-H, pleasure classes and competitive jumping classes. Enjoyed the Mountain Playhouse and traveling to New York City to attend Broadway plays, collected antiques sleigh bells, depression glass and crystal items. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Friday at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Allegheny St., Boswell, with the Rev. Larry C. Hoover officiating. Interment at the Jenner Crossroads Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Somerset County, P.O. Box 182, Somerset, PA 15501.
