Burkett, 84, Somerset, died June 14, 2005, at his residence. Born June 6, 1921, in Somerset, he is the son of the late Charles E. and Eva Jane (Shaffer) Burkett. Also preceded in death by brothers, James and Richard Burkett; sister, Mary Sarver; nieces, Alda Rinick, Jane Shumaker, Phyllis Shaulis, JoLinda Snyder; nephews, Paul Sarver and James Burkett. Survived by nieces, Margaret A. Menser, Hampton, Va., and Ruth Ann Soliday, Altoona; nephew, Richard Burkett, Pittsburgh; and numerous great nieces and great nephews, including his special care givers, Ellen and Ron Miller and Stephen Shaulis. Employed by Somerset Borough, retiring in 1997 after 46 years of service. U.S. Army World War II veteran and was part of the Normandy Invasion. He loved hunting and going to his cabin on the White Horse Mountain. He will be sadly missed by his neighbors and hunting buddies. A service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel Menser and Rev. Robert Soliday officiating. Interment Wills Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Somerset County Honor Guard, 139 W.
