He was the son of the late Leonard and Magdalene Gruber Burkhard and was born Nov. 27, 1868, in Accident, where he spent his entire life. He was united in marriage to Mary Zinkan, of Accident, May 31, 1891. Three sons and two daughters were born to them. Surviving are his wife and sons, Walter and Erwin, at home; and Henry of Mt. Savage and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Bowser, of Accident. His other daughter, Mrs. Howard Crowe of Mt. Savage, preceded him in death a year ago. He left also nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Miller, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. John Haenftling of Accident. He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, where funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. C. F. Dauphlin officiated.
