Burkholder Sr., 65, of Somerset passed on Oct. 21, 2001 at Somerset Hospital. Born April 11, 1936 in Coraopolis, son of the late Russell and Ethel (Fetter) Burkholder. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Marjorie; stepson, Daniel Sleasman; sisters Gloria Burkholder; Patricia Bjorkland and Deborah Bjorkland; and brother, William Bjorkland. Survived by wife, Martha Grace Burkholder; children: Donald, married to Karin, Burkholder Jr., of Orlando, Fla.; Marjorie, married to Daniel Barton, of Bolivar; Russel, married to Delores Burkholder of Ligonier; Guy Burkholder of Orlando, Fla.; Timothy, married to Paula Burkholder of Orlando, Fla.; Randy married to Doreen Burkholder of Orlando, Fla.; Pamela, married to Carl Ghist Jr., of Latrobe; Joseph, married to Connie, Burkholder of Central City; Grover, married to Donna, Sleasman of Mt. Pleasant; George, married to Connie, Sleasman of Somerset and Thomas, married to Martha Sleasman of Ligonier; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Brother of John, Dan and Wilbert Bjorkland; Elsie McDowell, Alice Baker and Karen Berth. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was past commander of the American Legion Post 267 in Ligonier. He was retired form Latrobe Steel in Latrobe and was an Elder of the Central City Christian Church. He did volunteer work for the Somerset Blind Association. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Ligonier American Legion at 109 Kelly St., Ligonier; Pastor Randy Reynolds officiating.
