Burkholder, 81, of Meyersdale RD 3, died Oct. 26, in Meyersdale Community Hospital. He was born in Garrett on June 12, 1891 a son of the late Nelson and Mary Engle Burkholder. Surviving are his wife, the former Mae E. Kretchman; two daughters: Mrs. Alfred (Irene) Baer, Meyersdale RD 4; and Mrs. Donald (Arlene) Grew, Latrobe; a brother, Charles, Meyersdale RD 1; three sisters: Mrs. Robert Dowie, Somerset; Mrs. Zora Cosgrove, Frostburg and Mrs. Gurney Stevanus, Rockwood RD and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark, and a sister, Mrs. Martin (Edith) Johnson. He was a veteran of World War I, Company A 126th Engineers. He was a well known surveyor for many years in the Meyersdale area, a member of the American Legion and quartermaster in the VFW and a member of Zion Lutheran Church Council. Services were conducted Oct. 29 in Price Funeral Home, the Rev. Harold Appel officiating. Interment in the Somerset County Memorial Park. Meyersdale Republican, November 2, 1972 [B3204]
