Earl (Pete) Burnworth Jr., 81, Uniontown, passed on Sept. 30, 2004, at Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 23, 1923, in Confluence, the son of the late Earl Burnworth Sr. and Mary (Bowman) Burnworth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Harry Burnworth and a sister, Catherine Wilcox. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine (David) Burnworth; a daughter, Judith Rae Thomas and her husband, Jack, Uniontown; a son Terry E. Burnworth and his wife, Carole, Concord, N.C.; three grandchildren, Matthew A. Thomas, Uniontown; Janel Lynn Service, Lakewood, Colo., and Robin Leigh Burnworth, Winston-Salem, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Natasha Burdo and Cassandra Burdo. A brother of David Burnworth and his wife, Betty, Eros, La.; Myrtle Caldwell, Pittsburgh; and Edna Smith, Manassas, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Burnworth, Markleysburg. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Pete was employed by the Pa. Department of Parks as a ranger, and during his employment he received the Ranger of the Year Ward in 1981. Pete was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in both the Pacific and European Theatres of Operation, receiving two bronze stars, five battle stars, one representing the Battle of the Bulge, and other ribbons. He attended the Johnson United Methodist Church in Confluence and was a member of the Ursina American Legion Post 0946. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown. Visitation also on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until hour of service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tim Rogers officiating. Entombment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
